Laser Welded Pipe Mill
This is a 60-type tube mill that closes the seam with a 6000 W fibre laser instead of high-frequency induction. Because the laser puts the heat into a narrow band, the heat-affected zone stays small — which matters on galvanized and thin-wall strip. The line is supplied with a zinc replenishing unit that re-coats the weld zone, so the seam keeps the corrosion protection of the parent strip.

How the line runs
Strip is uncoiled and fed into the forming section, where the flat strip is progressively rolled into a round tube. The open seam is closed and welded by the laser head, the weld is cooled, and the tube passes through the sizing section to its final dimensions. On galvanized strip the zinc replenishing unit re-coats the weld zone. The tube is then cut to length by the automatic circular saw on the run-out side.

Quality check before dispatch
Forming rolls and the finished tube are measured with calipers and gauges during assembly and again before packing. Weld quality is checked on the run-out side.
